Black ink rendering of a mouse with fine stippling details.

Since 2017, I’ve been working on a series of much-larger-than-life-size mice on 18″ x 24″ paper. Very fine brushes with India ink. Choosing a brush over pen for stippling requires time, focus, and determination, but the added control is very much worth it for me.

The variety of marks one can make is infinite. It’s also much easier for me to get in a flow-state with the brush, which is a necessity for the improvised, non-representational patterns that emerge to create the “fur” textures.

Created as part of a residency at Azule (Hot Springs, NC) in 2018.
